William B. Hayman, 73, of Newark, Delaware, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Born in Wilmington on July 14, 1952, he was the son of the late Walter M Hayman Jr. and Grace F. Hayman.
Bill was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and the University of Delaware. In his early years, he worked at the Brandywine Raceway, where he developed a lifelong passion for horse racing. He later began his professional career with Brooks Armored Car Service. Bill transitioned into the role of a credit card fraud investigator, working at the Bank of New York and Discover Card before completing his career at Bank of America, retiring in 2007.
An avid outdoorsman, Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as cooking—particularly seafood. In his retirement, he could often be found admiring the horses at Delaware Park in the mornings as they trained, enjoying the races, and trying his luck at the slot machines.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Virginia L. (Shioli) Hayman, who passed away on March 22, 2007. He is survived by his sons, Michael W. Hayman and his wife Tiffany, and James W. Hayman and his wife Bridget; his grandchildren, Adam, Lydia, and Evangeline Hayman; his brother, Robert J. Hayman and his wife Cathy; as well as his nieces, Laura (Gabriel), Erica (Kevin), and Juliana (Paul).
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, on Saturday, December 20, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by interment at All Saints Cemetery.
