Vito Anthony Matarese, Sr. age 82, of Landenberg, PA, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022.
He was born in Wilmington, son of the late Michael and Mildred (Davis) Matarese. Vito proudly served as a member of the Air National Guard. He enjoyed a long career as an electrician, first with the DuPont Company and then eventually with the IBEW Local 313.
Vito was an avid sportsman; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sporting clays. He was a member of the Black Moshannon Run Club, Atglen, Oxford and Ommelanden Gun Clubs. He also enjoyed woodworking and was an active member at St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Church.
He is survived by his children, Vito, Jr. (Constance), Christine Matarese (Jim Snyder), and Donna Whitig (Brent); his grandchildren, Stephen, Christopher, Sarah Matarese, and Andrew Whitig; his 3 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kash, and Olivia; his sister, Paula Salvatore (Ronald, deceased); his step-son, David Undorf (Patty) and their daughter, Carley Levitsky; his companion, Carolyn Pierce; as well as many nieces, nephews and members of his extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Hodgson; his second wife, Patricia Nolan; and his brother, Michael Matarese (Elizabeth).
A funeral service will be celebrated at 11:30am on Friday, January 28, 2022, at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Kennett Square, PA.
