Virginia "Ginger" M. (Stap) McCloy

Virginia M. “Ginger” McCloy, 78, of Newark, Delaware peacefully passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.  Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on December 12, 1942, she was the eldest of five children of the late Matthew and Marie (Kovalcik) Stap.

Ginger was raised and educated in New Jersey, and made Newark, Delaware her home in 1968.  She was a teacher at Holy Spirit Catholic School, then became employed with Chase Manhattan Bank and returned to teaching by joining the staff at Computer Tots.  Ginger was a faithful member of Resurrection Parish and was involved with the Jesus House Prayer and Renewal Center. 

In her retirement, Ginger enjoyed meals out with her friends, participating in a monthly book club and Dining for Women.  An avid nature fan, she enjoyed time at the beach and taking in the seasonal sights at Longwood Gardens.

Her husband of 47 years, James F. McCloy, passed away on October 23, 2012.

Ginger will be dearly missed by her children, David F. McCloy (Theresa) and Karen H. Karl (Chris); her grandchildren, Marissa, Melanie, Brian and Megan.  In addition, she is survived by her sisters, Susan French, Bettina Stap and Jeanne Nooney; her brother, Michael Stap.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Saturday, September 4 from 9:30-10:30AM, with a Catholic Funeral Service immediately following.  Interment will be held privately in Haddonfield Church Cemetery, Haddonfield, New Jersey at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ginger may be made to Jesus House Prayer and Renewal Center, 2501 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 (www.jesushousecenter.org).
