Virginia “Ginny” Lion, age 75, of Landenberg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in Newark, Delaware. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth touched everyone she met.
Ginny was born on December 29, 1950, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, to the late Earl and Ruth Keiser. She graduated from Pottstown High School and went on to earn her Associates Degree from Brandywine College. Her career began at SKF in King of Prussia, where she met the love of her life, John Lion. She spent the majority of her career as a real estate secretary at O'Donnell, Weiss, & Mattei in Pottstown, where her steady kindness and quiet competence made her a trusted presence to colleagues and clients alike.
Ginny married her best friend and built a life rich in love, laughter, and family. She and John recently celebrated 54 years together, marked by three cherished trips to Florida. She found joy in the simple things she loved most: going to the beach, a good book, tending to her plants, weekend getaways and world traveling, and a good afternoon (or day) of shopping. Her generosity ran deep at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, where she contributed to fellowship in every way she could, whether that meant cooking a meal for someone in need, giving her time, or simply helping where needed. Ginny was there if someone needed her to be.
Family was the heart of everything for Ginny. To her grandchildren she was Mimi, a title she wore with pride, and there was nothing she would not do for her children or her grandchildren. Her home was a place of comfort. Her heart was full of love and compassion. She was there for sporting events, plays, concerts, and competitions, always cheering her kids and grandkids on.
Ginny will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband, John; her daughters, Andrea Simmons and her husband, Matt, and Christy Watkins and her husband, Taylor; her grandchildren, Juliet, Jake, Elyse, and Dylan; her brother, Duke, and his wife, Tina; Jim, Walt, and Tom, her brothers through marriage; and a wide circle of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who were lucky to know her.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Christiana Hospital, especially the 2D Neuro ICU team, whose care and compassion for Ginny and her family will never be forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 10:00 – 11:30AM at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, 5320 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Funeral services will begin at 11:30AM, with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall. All who loved Ginny are welcome to share in her remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ginny's memory may be made to St. Philip’s Lutheran Church for special projects focused on community outreach, a cause that reflected the way she lived every day.
