Virginia Gordon Dennis

Virginia Gordon Dennis, age 82, of Newark, Delaware, passed away, peacefully and in the company of loved ones, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

The second of five children, Ginny was born in Derry, New Hampshire on December 16, 1942, to Irvin and Helen Gordon. She grew up in Marlborough, New Hampshire, where she enjoyed winter sports, basketball, 4-H, and church activities. A 1960 Marlborough High School graduate, she attended Plymouth State University.

Upon graduating college, Ginny moved to Delaware and began her life-long career in education. After teaching in Dover, she worked as an elementary school teacher in the Christina School District for 30 years. After retiring, she worked in the Groves Adult Education Program.

Ginny had many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed being outdoors and climbed New Hampshire’s Mount Monadnock several times in her life. She loved travelling, both in the company of her husband Russ and, after his passing, with her partner, Marty. She travelled across the U.S., throughout Canada and Europe, and visited much of the Caribbean. She loved the beach, regularly spending time in both Miami and Lewes, Delaware. Ginny enjoyed music and sang in the Blue Rock Chorus. She did charitable work, notably with the Emmanuel Dining Room. Most of all, she enjoyed spending free time with her grandchildren.

Ginny was pre-deceased by her mother (Helen), father (Irvin), and husband (Russell). Her survivors include sons, Christopher Dennis (Helen), Andrew Dennis (Laura), and a daughter, Karen Dennis (Jessica). Her partner and devoted caregiver, Martin Lauterwald also survives her. She is also survived by sisters, Sue Johansen and Marcia Goodnow, and brothers, Irv Gordon and Rob Gordon. Her grandchildren, Kyle, Trevor, Kayleigh, Sarah, Blythe, and Beau will also miss her immeasurably.

Calling hours will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, Wilmington on Monday, May 12th from 4:00 - 7:00PM. A memorial service will be held at Saint James Episcopal Church, 2106 St. James Church Road, Mill Creek, Wilmington on Tuesday, May 13 at 11:00AM.
