Thomas “Tom” Stirparo, Sr., 89, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Born in Wilmington on August 23, 1936, he was the youngest son of the late Giovanni and Carmella (Barba) Stirparo.
Tom was a graduate of Salesianum High School, and worked as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service for 37 years, mostly working out of the Edgemoor Branch. He retired in 1996.
He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and watching his favorite baseball team, the Philadelphia Phillies.
Tom will be dearly missed by his sons, John J. Stirparo, Thomas A. Stirparo, Jr. and wife, Mary Kay, Daniel Stirparo and wife, Mary; his grandchildren Christine M. Stirparo (Jason), Gregory M. Stirparo (Lauren), Kevin A. Stirparo, Daniel A. Stirparo (Paige), Michael J. Stirparo (Marlie), Meghan N. Stirparo; and his great grandchildren, Sebastian, Lucia, Jack and Beckham.
Tom was predeceased by Millicent, his wife of 69 years, in February 2026 and his brothers, Philip Stirparo, Frank Stirparo, Joseph Stirparo and James Stirparo.
Family and friends are invited to visitation at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Tuesday, May 26 from 9:30 – 11:00AM. Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM, immediately followed by entombment at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Tom may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org).
