Thomas P. McCartney, 80, of Wilmington, Delaware peacefully passed away in the comfort of his own home on Saturday, February 15, 2020.
Tom lived a full life. He always surrounded himself with family and friends. Tom enjoyed sharing the latest joke and making people laugh. He will be remembered for his annual Crab Feast and Christmas parties, where he shared his famous mustard and pumpkin bread.
Tom celebrated Christmas brunch every year with his family and dear friends, Mark, Trish, Stephanie and Jessica Herron, where lasting memories were made.
Beyond being an amazing father, he embraced being a grandfather to the fullest. He spent his time attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and celebrations. He was a proud Pop-Pop. Tom also enjoyed trips to Disney and Rehoboth Beach with his family. He had the opportunity to instill his strong values as well as his extensive sense of humor in all of us.
Tom was honored to have served as a member of the Air National Guard. He was employed at the News Journal until he decided to open a printing business, Print-N-Press in 1982. He retired in 2004 to spend more time with his family.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing and watching sports, especially the Eagles and Phillies.
He was the son of the late Francis and Irma (Rothwell) McCartney. Tom is survived by his brothers, Leonard McCartney and Kenneth McCartney; his daughter, Jennifer Paoli and husband, Domenick; his daughter, Kimberly McCartney; his grandchildren, Juliana, Domenick and Roman Paoli, Gaige and Graison McCartney.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Saturday, February 22 from 9:30-11:00AM. A Remembrance Service will begin at 11:00AM. Interment will be held privately.
