Ted Calvin Williams

Ted C. Williams passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026, surrounded in love by his family. Born on October 26, 1954 in Marietta, OH, he was one of three sons of the late Herbert and Doris (Hayes) Williams.

In 1975, he met the love of his life, Karen on a blind date while attending and playing football at West Virginia Tech University. He would say it was love at first sight. Upon graduation, this Ohio boy moved to Delaware and made it his home. They were married July 30, 1977, in Newark, DE and started a wonderful life together as partners, supporting each other’s endeavors, including Ted’s obtaining his engineering degree from Drexel University and both running successful businesses. They have enjoyed traveling to amazing places across the country and world but always felt most at ease in their Delaware homes. Ted never grumbled through Karen’s gardening but always ensured there was an opportunity for a weekend nap in front of the television, listening to whatever seasonal sport was on TV, especially if it was his beloved Ohio State University.

Ted spent 38 of his 50 years in civil engineering working for Landmark Engineering, ending his career as the president and chairmen of the board, overseeing a successful transition to McKim and Creed. His professional successes are too numerous to count, serving as Chairman of the Council on Transportation, President of Committee of 100, and previously served ACEC as national chairman, DIAA vice chair, and DOE construction committee throughout his life. In the final months of his life, his family has been witness to the words from those that Ted has worked with over the years. He has been described as kind, fair, loyal, steadfast with resilience, and an overall “just good person”

Ted’s life was one of perpetual service, giving back at every opportunity he had. He had an inability to say no to any committees or volunteer opportunities and those extended far beyond professional. Throughout his life he could be found on the sidelines of youth football, softball and baseball fields. He ran swim meets and learned to be a stroke and turn judge despite his own lack of skills in the water. He never missed a game or event…it was part of his love language.

The accomplishment that Ted spoke of the most was as husband to Karen, dad to Lauren and Ryan, and his most important job, Pop to Delaney, Ainsley and Briggs. He was never more engaged then telling those around him about the amazing stuff that his kids and grandkids were up to. He rarely ever cried but shed tears learning he was going to be a grandpa. He and Karen soaked in every pee-wee soccer game, swim meet, and ball game.

Ted was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Doris (Hayes) Williams and his in-laws, William and Peggy McCall. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Karen (McCall); his daughter, Lauren and son, Ryan (Allison); his grandchildren, Delaney, Ainsley, and Briggs; and brothers, Tim (Christine) and Tom.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, July 6 from 5:00 – 7:00PM.  An additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 7 from 10:00 – 11:00AM, with funeral services beginning at 11:00AM.  Interment will be held privately.
