Susan R. Cordero, age 83, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 5, 1941 to the late William and Theresa (Bourque) McCaffrey.
Susan earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, NY as well as her graduate degree in Pastoral Ministry from St. Elizabeth College in Convent Station, NJ. Susan served as Director of Liturgy and Religious Education at churches in Easton, PA, Katy, TX and Parsippany, NJ. Her passion was teaching young children her love for our Lord and the Catholic faith. Earlier in her career, she worked as a Social Worker in New York, NY.
A deeply faithful Catholic, Susan was a daily communicant, prayed the rosary fervently, and found spiritual nourishment in Bible studies and charismatic conferences. Her radiant faith was evident in her words, her smile, and her gentle presence—drawing others closer to Christ through her example.
Susan was also an avid reader, skilled knitter, and a fierce Scrabble and card player who never missed a chance to share a laugh or a story. She will be remembered most for her deep love of family and the joyful moments she spent with them. Even during her journey with Alzheimer’s, she remained sweet, kind, and full of light.
Susan is survived by her husband of 58 years, Louis H. Cordero who she just adored. She always thought he was the most handsome man on earth and he was most good to her until the end visiting her daily at the nursing home. She is also survived by sons Douglas Cordero (Kerry) of NJ and Robert Cordero (Emori) of the UK and daughters Christine Buchanan (Mark) of GA and Ruthie Coutinho (Cecil) of DE. Susan is also survived by nine grandchildren and her sister Peggy (Matty) Schneider of NC as well as various nieces and nephews.
