Stanislaw “Stanley” Kurkowski, 72, of Newark, Delaware passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, May 15, 2026. Born in Grzymki, Poland on April 4, 1954, he was a son of the late Eugene and Anna (Lempicki) Kurkowski. As a young man, Stas served in the Polish Military and made a title for himself that he is honored to carry.
Stanley came to the United States in 1978, with his wife Zenia and their young children, in hope for a life full of success. Stas worked for Potts Welding & Boiler Repair, Inc. for more than 20 years, but everyone knows him as the go-to right hand man who would drop anything to help someone else. He built friendships with the people around him because he would never turn down a challenge. Stas was the hardest working man, living his life with passion in everything he did. He built everything with his bare hands, including his family.
Above all else, Stas was a loving husband, an invested father, and a proud grandfather. Stas always showed up for his grandchildren, at baseball, basketball, volleyball, and soccer games, dance performances, and theater productions - watching proudly of the family he built and loves. He cheered for the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, whose success in school and in life fulfilled the dream that he and Zenia pursued when they came to the United States from Poland over 50 years ago. He is the first to greet you with a hug during the holidays, to bring you a handmade flower bouquet picked fresh from his garden, and would be the loudest singer on your birthday.
One of his favorite moments to share was during a family cruise, exploring the craftsmanship of the ship and unforgettable memories he made while swimming with dolphins. Stas was a proud man.
On the mere days that Stas was not tinkering, he enjoyed traveling. He was a proud, strong Polish man whose heritage shined like a beacon. Traveling back to Poland was a breath of fresh air in his lungs, reconnecting with family and friends, and sharing a meal meant more to him than what met the eye. We are left with immeasurable vacancy at our dinner table.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Eugenia (Tomczuk) Kurkowska; his daughter, Anna Bond and husband, Chris; his son, Adam Kurkowski; his beloved grandchildren, Christopher and Morgan Bond, London and Rocklyn Kurkowski. He is also survived by his sisters, Teresa Kielar and husband, Ted, Jadzia Laszczkowski and husband, Zdzislaw; his brother, Edward Kurkowski and wife, Alina.
He was a faithful member of St. Hedwig’s Parish, where we will gather to celebrate his life.
His family and friends are invited to the visitation at St. Hedwig’s Church, Linden and S. Harrison Streets, Wilmington on Friday, May 22 from 10:00 – 10:45AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM, immediately followed by entombment at All Saints Cemetery.
