Sieglinde Karoline (Gruber) Simpson, age 81, of Newark, Delaware, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023.
Linda was born November 21, 1941 in Neustadt, Württemberg, Germany, the daughter of Adolf and Else Gruber. The second of four children, she was predeceased by her two sisters, Elsbeth Korb and Inge Haag, as well as her brother Ade Gruber. Linda was married to Samuel M. Simpson, who passed away in 2006. She is survived by two sons, COL (Ret.) Samuel Kyle Simpson II and his wife, Chery of Florida, and their four daughters, Haley, Hannah, Hope, and Harper; and Lt Col (Ret.) Anthony G. Simpson and his wife, Blythe of Orcas Island, Washington, and their children, 2Lt Hayden Simpson and Lindsey Simpson. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Rolf Korb, two cousins, Doris Probst and Ingrid Hoernke of Germany, and three nephews, Lance Wilgus of Delaware, Kevin Wilgus of Ohio, and Ralf Haag of Germany.
Linda graduated with honors from the University of Delaware in Business Management and worked for ICI Americas, Inc. and the DuPont Company for many years. In retirement, she enjoyed studying and teaching at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute where she made many friends. She also enjoyed listening to operas nightly.
At Linda’s request, there will be no service and inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends a donation to the Opera Delaware (operade.org) or to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (osher.udel.edu).
