Sherry Anne McLaughlin

Sherry Anne McLaughlin, age 75, of Bear, DE passed away peacefully on Thursday June 10, 2021, with her family at her side. 

Sherry was born in Wilmington Delaware, grew up in the Claymont area and raised her family in Elsmere, Delaware.  Sherry was a classically trained vocalist and enjoyed sharing her beautiful voice with others. Sherry participated in the All-State choir and glee club during her high school years and in the late 70’s to mid-80s participated in the St Thomas adult choir and served as director of the St. Thomas children’s choir.

Sherry spent most of her early career in the restaurant business, beginning with the Dutch Pantry, Poor Richard Inn, Sherton Hotel and ending at Arner’s Family Restaurant where she worked with both of her sons.  Once her children were older, Sherry left the restaurant business and began her career in banking.  Sherry retired from the Bank of New York/Chase in 2003.  Sherry lived her life for her three children and took great pride in her three grandchildren. Sherry loved to travel for family vacations and making lasting memories with her family.

Sherry was preceded in death by her loving husband, William “Todd” McLaughlin Jr; her oldest son, William J McLaughlin III; her parents, Richard and Agnes Bixler (Elwell); and siblings, Veronica Deldeo, Richard Bixler Jr, and Kathleen Smith.   

Sherry will be dearly missed by her children, Brien McLaughlin and Amber Hinton (Michael); her grandchildren, Darby McLaughlin, Cooper and Parker Hinton; her sister, Jacqueline Wirkkala; brother, David Bixler; and her many nieces and nephews, especially her niece, Chrichele Fahr. 

A visitation for Sherry will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church located at 301 North Bancroft Parkway, Wilmington, DE  19805.  Burial will follow the mass at Cathedral Cemetery.
