With hearts full of love and gratitude for his life, we announce the passing of Scott Brian McKently, age 71, of Landenberg, PA, formerly of Wilmington, DE, who left this world peacefully on June 23, 2025, surrounded by the family he cherished so deeply.
Scott was born on October 10, 1953, in Wilmington, where he spent nearly his entire life. He was one of the sons of the late Ray Calvin McKently and Dorothy Abrahamson.
Scott’s life was defined by devotion—to his family, his passions, and his quiet, steady way of caring for those around him. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Gillespie) McKently. He was the proud father, and the ultimate “girl dad”, of his two daughters, Lauren Jean Peterson of Greenwood, IN and Karen Rose Nagel (Justin) of Hockessin, DE, whose lives reflect his kindness, strength, and sense of humor. Scott adored his four grandchildren—Ava Grace, Jack Ryland, Roman Scott, and Emilia Ray—who brought endless joy into his later years and lit up his world.
He is also survived by his brother, Barry McKently of Oakland, FL, and his sister, Kristen Gengler (Keith) of Harleyville, PA, with whom he shared a lifelong bond rooted in love, family, and friendship.
Scott had a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fan of G scale model trains, a passionate golfer, and a devoted Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles supporter. Each summer, he looked forward to vacationing in the Outer Banks with his family—a tradition filled with laughter, sunrises, and memories that will be cherished for generations. Scott and his first wife, Jan, began taking their daughters, Lauren and Karen, from a very young age. He also continued the tradition when Carol came into his life beginning in 2008 and subsequent years since.
Scott's quiet strength, gentle spirit, and deep love for his family made him the kind of person everyone was better for knowing. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, July 17th, 2025 from 10AM-11AM at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 11AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Scott's memory to a charity of your choosing.
