Scott M. Cathell, 60, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Wilmington, Delaware, on February 7, 1965, to Robert J. Sr. and Mary (Ruff) Cathell. He attended St. Matthew’s School and graduated from Delcastle Technical High School, after which he completed his electrical apprenticeship and proudly devoted 30 years to IBEW Local 313.
Scott had a rare blend of humor and heart. He showed his love through action, always ready to lend a hand, fix what was broken, or deliver a perfectly timed joke. Many of his friendships began in childhood and lasted a lifetime, a testament to his loyalty and genuine nature.
Music was a defining part of Scott’s life. A talented bass guitarist, music remained one of his favorite ways to unwind, whether playing, writing, or enjoying live music with friends.
The outdoors was Scott’s happy place. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and spending time at the beach; he was never more content than when he was near the water. Summers in Lewes became his favorite chapter—days on the boat with family and friends, with nowhere else he’d rather be.
Scott was also famous for one unforgettable trait: he could fall asleep anywhere. In a chair, on a boat, or mid-conversation, it didn’t matter. His notorious naps became a source of endless amusement to those who knew him.
Above all, Scott lived his life fully and authentically. He had an open heart, a generosity that never wavered, and a presence that made life lighter for everyone around him. That presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he gifted to all who were lucky enough to know him will never be forgotten.
Scott is survived by his wife, Linda DiBiaso Cathell; his daughter, Karli Cathell (Michael); his mother, Mary (Ruff) Cathell; his brothers, Robert J. Cathell Jr. (Paddi), Eugene Cathell, and Curtis Cathell; along with several nieces and nephews. Scott was predeceased by his father, Robert J. Cathell Sr.; as well as his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Nicholas and Alice DiBiaso.
Family and friends are invited to the viewing at St. Elizabeth Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington, on Thursday, December 11, from 10:00 to 11:45AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00PM, immediately followed by interment at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.
