Sandra M. (McKinnon) Hazzard, age 87, of Kennett Square, PA, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025 with her children by her side.
Born in Wilmington in 1937, Sandra was the daughter of the late Wilmont and Marie (Holveck) McKinnon. She attended Ursuline Academy and graduated with the Class of 1954. Sandra then continued her higher education by receiving her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware. Sandra dedicated her professional time and talents to being a teacher, impacting the lives of many students and their families over the years.
Sandra’s most important role was that of being a wife and mother. She shared 49 ½ years of loving marriage with her husband, John Patrick Hazzard Jr., and together raised their three children, Andrea, Valerie, and John. Mr. Hazzard’s occupation as an attorney took the Hazzards to various states throughout the U.S., but Sandra always flourished and found ways to serve those in her community. She was involved with the Women’s Junior Service League, she volunteered at Longwood Gardens, and while living in Ohio, she was a CPR instructor and a hospice volunteer.
The Hazzard family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the entire staff of the Transitional Surgical Unit Team at Christiana Care Hospital for their exceptional care and kindness to their mother, Sandra.
Along with both of her parents, Sandra was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Patrick Hazzard, Jr. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Andrea Zahn (Steve), Valerie Murray (Bill), John Hazzard III (Michele); her grandchildren, Tyler Zahn (Madeline), Amanda McPherson (Mike), Sean Murray, Hanna Hazzard, Lauren Murray, John Hazzard IV, and Colleen Murray; and many extended family members and friends.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, May 9th, 2025 from 10AM-11AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 301 N. Bancroft Pkwy, Wilmington, DE 19805, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM. Entombment to follow in Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington, DE 19805
