Rosemary Foy Obituary

Rosemary McCormick Foy passed away peacefully at her home in Wilmington, DE, on August 23rd, 2025 with her six children by her side - a reflection of the close-knit family she cherished. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, a caring mother, and a beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her steadfast dedication to her family shone through everything she did, leaving behind a legacy filled with love and kindness.

Rosemary was born on Staten Island, New York, on April 19, 1929, to Dr. Leslie McCormick and Mary Lucille McCormick. Rosemary attended St. Joseph Hill Academy. After completing her studies, she began her career in Manhattan. She met Jim, the love of her life, whom she married in 1949, and together they raised their children. After their youngest started school, Rosemary resumed her career, holding various jobs in the banking industry.

Most of their married life was spent on Staten Island and upstate New York. After their retirements, they divided their time between their upstate New York home, Virginia, and North Carolina. Rosemary gave her time to various causes that were close to her heart: Girl Scouts, Crisis Pregnancy Center, Religious Education and Bible Study, and Save The Children. Rosemary was also active in her Parish communities wherever she lived. She had a deep love for, and commitment to, the Holy Family. She regularly prayed the Rosary and Novenas to St. Joseph, with whom she had a special connection.

Rosemary loved spending time with her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her joy and she was a willing and enthusiastic participant in their recitals, sporting activities and as an as-needed babysitter.

Survivors include her six children: Rosemary Johnsen (Martin), Nancy McCormick Foy (Paul Caldwell), James Foy (Noreen Quinn-Foy), Peter Foy, Lesley Garofalo (Peter), Laura Walker (Mark). Rosemary is also survived by twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Arlene Foy, and many nieces and nephews and their families. Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, James, and her siblings, Marjorie Mahl and Michael McCormick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on September 8th, 2025 beginning at 11AM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wilmington, DE. Interment and a celebration of her life will be held on October 4th, 2025 at 11:30AM in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Taberg, NY.
