Ronald L. Sweetman Sr., 85, of Rising Sun, Maryland peacefully passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026. Born in Wilmington on May 29, 1940, he was the son of the late Clarence and Beatrice (Nowland) Sweetman.
Ron was a graduate of Newark High School and proudly served our country in the United States Air Force. He was employed with the Chrysler Corporation at their Newark Assembly Plant, having retired after 36 years of dedicated service.
Ron was a golf enthusiast and an avid Phillies fan. He was instrumental in the founding of New Castle Moose Lodge #1578 and cherished his membership there.
His loving wife of 64 years, Pearl E. (Crockett) Sweetman, passed away on August 10, 2024.
Ron is survived by his children, Barbara Payne, Ronald L. Sweetman Jr. (Sherry), Robert Sweetman, and Lora Kosinski (Michael); his daughter in-law, Marie Holmes; his grandchildren, Eric Payne (Victoria), Amber Payne, Heather Payne, Brooke Alston, Kathryn Sweetman, Lauren Wood (Brian), Samuel Goff, Spencer Goff, and Grace Sweetman; his great grandchildren, Kyndra Harris, Emme and Lawson Payne, Penelope and Poppy Weaver.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, April 13 from 11:30AM – 1:00PM. Funeral services will begin at 1:00PM, immediately followed by interment at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
