Robert “Bob” Glenn Schumann, of Hockessin, Delaware, passed away peacefully in Wilmington, Delaware, on June 3, 2021, at the age of 71 with his family by his side.
Born in Rockville Centre, New York, on September 27, 1949, Bob was the son of the late Frederick and Irene Schumann. The family moved to Delaware, where Bob grew up on a small farm riding horses with his three siblings, Ronnie, Rick, and Patty. He often fondly recalled stories from his childhood of summer road trips and gracing the house with his organ music. Bob graduated from Newark High School in 1967 and subsequently joined the Air Force, serving as a requisition specialist in Europe during the Vietnam War. After leaving the service, Bob took a job at DuPont’s Glasgow site, where he remained a loyal employee for 49 years, working as a facilities planner through transitions to Dade Behring and Siemens Healthineers. He loved and was beloved by the lifelong friends he made there.
Bob loved fast cars, the supernatural, and tinkering with gadgets, but most of all, Bob loved his family. In 1993, he married his adoring wife of 28 years, Ning. They were devoted to one another through thick and thin, and, together, they created a home and raised a daughter, Joanna. Bob’s greatest joy in life came from spending time with his daughter. He and Joanna shared everything and made the most of every moment. They were inseparable – best friends until the very end. His love also extended to his many nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored. A resilient man – Bob was tough, but kind; wise, but humble; strong, but gentle. With his warm hugs and sweet smile, he will be dearly missed by many, but memories of him will live on.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Irene, as well as his brother, Ronald. He is survived by his wife, Ning, and daughter, Joanna, of Hockessin, Delaware; his brother Richard (wife Teresa) Schumann of Hockessin, Delaware, their children, Jennifer, Melissa, Kimberly, and Stephen, and grandnieces and grandnephews; his sister, Patricia Draper, of Wilmington, Delaware, and her children Samantha and Aaron; and his sister-in-law, Ginnie Schumann of Naperville, Illinois.
