Robert "Bob" Clayton Campbell, age 87,passed away on Thursday, August 24th, 2023 after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Kennett Square, PA he was the son of the late Forrest and Ester (Williams) Campbell. Bob worked at DuPont (Chestnut Run) as a pipefitter for many years. After retiring he worked at Acme grocery store and competed in bagging competitions. He enjoyed spending time with his family traveling in their RV and with members of the “Honeybees” and GoodSam. Often times he would take day trips to Lancaster Co., Pa and watch the Strasburg Railroad, tour the Herrs factory in Nottingham or any other activity his grandchildren and great grandchildren wanted to do.
Bob was a devoted family man and held every member of his family close to his heart. He was the oldest of nine children: Howard “Punk” Campbell, Eva Mae “Reds” Lake, Margaret “Peg” Osborne, John Campbell, Forrest Campbell, Mary Osborne, Walter Campbell and Judy Campbell. He met the love of his life, Eva May Harkins, in third grade and were later married in July of 1954. Together they cherished their three daughters and lived in Kennett Square until he moved his family to Hockessin, DE in 1972. Bob has now been reunited with his wife, Eva May, and two daughters Cheryl Darone (Joseph) and Gail A. Snow. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia L. Jester; grandchildren: Robert Clayton Campbell ll (Katie), Joshua A. Darone (Nina), Crystal Jester, April Snow, Charles Snow, Justin Snow; great-grandchildren: Zachary M. Campbell, Nicholas R. Campbell, Aubrey L. Campbell, Evan R. Darone, and soon-to-arrive, Stella May Snow.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, August 30th, 2023 from 10AM-11:45AM at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. A funeral service will begin at 12PM. Interment will follow in Union Hill Cemetery, 424 N Union St., Kennett Square, PA 19348.
