Robert A. Gland, Sr.

Robert A. Gland Sr., age 86, of Wilmington and Long Neck, Delaware, passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, May 23, 2026.  Born on September 13, 1939 in Wilmington, Delaware, Bob lived a life centered around family and friendship.

Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kathleen M. “Cookie” (Burns) Gland in 2021 and his beloved son, Timothy A. Gland in 2015. He was also predeceased by his parents, John and Viola (Marchello) Gland, his brothers and sisters.

Bob will be dearly missed by his loving daughter, Kathy Frey and her husband, Gene; his loving son, Robert A. Gland Jr. and his wife, Cheryl; his grandchildren, Brian Frey and his wife, Jen, Daria Charles and her husband, Kurt, Breanna Pace and her husband, CJ, and Robert A. Gland III and his wife, Danielle; along with nine cherished great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Bob worked for many years at Del Steel in Wilmington.  In the early years, he also worked at the Elsmere Skating Rink.  He coached Little League and worked with Cookie side by side at the Oak Grove Senior Center, where he enjoyed spending time with the seniors and playing pool.  He loved hunting and leaves behind his dog/best friend, Buddy.

Bob shared a loving marriage with Cookie for 62 years before her passing.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Wednesday, June 3 from 10:00 – 11:30AM.  Funeral services will begin at 11:30AM, immediately followed by interment at All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Bob may be made to the Oak Grove Senior Center, 484 Century Blvd., Wilmington, DE 19808.
