Robert Geiger Obituary

Lovingly known by family and friends as “Bob”, Robert Lee Geiger was born on March 23, 1939 in Harrisburg, PA to the late Edwin and Sarah Geiger.  On January 23, 2020, after a somewhat short illness, he made a peaceful transition into everlasting life.

Bob attended and graduated from William Penn High School in Harrisburg, PA where he was a scholar athlete, excelling in academics, basketball and baseball.  In 1961, he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics from Elizabethtown College.  Bob pursued advanced studies at the University of Delaware where he earned a Master of Arts Degree in Education and at Utah State University, he was a National Science Foundation Scholar.

Bob taught mathematics for forty years.  His career began at Central Dauphin East High School in Harrisburg and in Delaware, he taught at John Dickinson and Thomas McKean High Schools.  At Thomas McKean High School, he was chairman of the Mathematics Department and he also coached basketball, baseball and cross country.

Bob’s talents did not go unnoticed by his colleagues.  His numerous awards included “Teacher of the Year” (Thomas McKean High School), “Groves Adult High School State Educator of the Year” and he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for Athletics for baseball and basketball at Elizabethtown College.

Bob will always be remembered for his wit, sense of humor and his endearing smile.  He was not only a great teacher, but mentor as well, playing an integral part in the lives he touched.  He was an avid Penn State football team fan, as well as a New York Yankees baseball team fan.  Bob enjoyed golfing, reading and doing crossword puzzles….in pen.

Those left to cherish fond memories of Robert L. Geiger are his life-long companion, LaVon Peterson of Hockessin, DE; three sons: Christopher Geiger and Andrew Geiger (Virginia) of Newark, DE, Stephen Geiger (Connie) of Downingtown, PA; brother, Edwin Geiger (Jean) of Doylestown, PA; sister, Delores Zehring (Jack) of Harrisburg, PA; four granddaughters, Madeleine Geiger, Liliana Geiger, Elaina Geiger and Shelby Geiger; three nieces: Leah Mentha, Lori Zehring, Gwen Barlett; three nephews: Gavin Geiger, Jackson Zehring, Mark Zehring; many other relatives, former co-workers and close friends.
