Robert J. Borkowski Sr., 77, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, March 6, 2026. Born in Wilmington on September 19, 1948, he was the son of the late Jesse and Frances (Maykut) Borkowski.
Bob was a graduate of Brown Vocational High School and proudly served the City of Wilmington as a firefighter for 24 years with the Wilmington Fire Department. An electrician by trade, he operated Robert J. Borkowski Electric during the day while also working the night shift with the fire department. Following his retirement from the Wilmington Fire Department, Bob continued his service to the fire community with the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office, where he worked for 10 years before retiring in 2014.
The fire service was more than a career to Bob—it was a lifelong calling and a brotherhood he was proud to be part of. He remained actively involved as a dedicated volunteer with Five Points Fire Company and was always willing to lend a hand whenever it was needed.
Above all, Bob was a devoted family man. His greatest joy in life was being ‘Pop-Pop’ to his granddaughters, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharon Ann (Senn) Borkowski, who passed away on February 15, 2020, and by his sister, Jacqueline Case.
He will be dearly missed by his sons, Robert Borkowski and Brian Borkowski (Amanda); his cherished granddaughters, Emerson, Grayson and Elle Borkowski; his brother-in-law, James Case; and his nieces, Michelle Ferguson (Matt), Melanie Klosiewicz (Tom) and Mary Beth Case (Pat), along with their children.
Family and friends are invited to visit at St. Matthew’s Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Wilmington on Thursday, March 12 from 10:00 - 11:45AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00PM, immediately followed by interment at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bob may be made to Five Points Fire Company, 209 S. Maryland Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19804 (https://www.fivepoints17.com).
