Robert J. Arnold

Robert Joseph Arnold, “Bob,” passed away October 26, 2023, at the age of 91.

Born in Lebanon, PA to Moses and Elizabeth Arnold, he was the oldest of 13 children.  He served his country in the US Army as a military police officer based in Germany, then attended the Williamsport Technical Institute.  A longtime member of Local 542 of the International Union of Operating Engineers, he worked for Brandywine Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator.  He enjoyed 26 years of retirement. 

Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Jean Louise (Yeiser) Arnold, and his loving children, Steven R. and Colleen Arnold of Wilmington Delaware, Timothy S. Arnold and Heather Hassinger of Glen Mills PA, Jeffrey A. and Jaime Arnold of Downingtown PA.  He was “The Best Grandpa out there” to Katie, Meaghan, Corinne, Mia, Violet, Xavier, Molly and Sam. 

A farmer at heart, his gardening skills were unmatched, supplying family, friends, and neighbors with a wide variety of produce from his backyard garden.  He loved hunting and fishing, and especially talking about hunting and fishing.

A common figure at sports fields, swim meets, recitals, concerts and even the ballet – he rarely missed any of his grandchildren’s activities.  He will be dearly missed by many.  None more so than his family. 

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 10AM-11AM at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. A funeral service will begin at 11AM. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
