Richard "Rick" Quartarone Obituary

Richard James Quartarone, known lovingly as Rick, age 57, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 31, 2021.

Born in Long Island, New York, Rick was the son of the late Robert and Estelle (Palmeri) Quartarone. He was a graduate of Salesianum High School Class of 1982 where he was active in choir and theater. After graduation, Rick enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he was a supply specialist and unit armorer for B Company 142nd Sig. Bn. 2nd Armored Division. He was an Expert Marksman in Rifle and Grenade. While in the Army, Rick met his first wife of 23 years, Bonnie, while they were both stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. They married in 1988 and welcomed their son, Richard, in 1989 and their son, Andrew, in 1992. After his time in the service, Rick worked as a computer programmer for EMAX, and later as a technology manager with JPMorgan Chase for over 20 years.

Beginning when he was 14 years old, Rick enjoyed singing with his dad with the Barbershop Harmony Society, where he was a member for over 30 years. Through the years, he has been a member of several barbershop choruses and quartets, including The Chorus of the Brandywine and The Brothers in Harmony Choruses and Rapid Fire and Bazinga Quartets, as well as the Atlantic Harmony Brigade. Through the BBS Harmony Society, Rick met his current wife, Kim Pulaski, who also sings and is a member of Liberty Oak Chorus, a Chapter of Sweet Adelines Int’l. Rick and Kim enjoyed traveling for barbershop events, which included trips to Amsterdam, Toronto, and Las Vegas.

Family was the center of Rick’s life. He was a devoted husband, father, and Grandpa. Rick loved spending time with his grandchildren, especially summer pool time. There are many special memories to be treasured from the summer vacations at Bethany Beach when his sons, Ricky and Andy, were younger.

Rick will be remembered for his playful yet sarcastic sense of humor. He treasured his collection of humorous t-shirts. He was a die-hard Star Trek and Star Wars fan and loved movies and T.V. shows, especially Big Bang Theory, Game of Thrones and Walking Dead. Rick was known for his vast movie quotes that he would share with anyone, and his ability to reference numerous song lyrics at any given time.

In his leisure time, Rick enjoyed cooking, especially making Christmas cookies, smoking meats, and making homemade ravioli. He was a gun and coin enthusiast, as well as Magic the Gathering, and an avid cigar aficionado. In earlier years, he enjoyed bowling and working on cars.

Rick is survived by his wife, Kim Pulaski; his sons, Ricky Quartarone and his wife, Jade, and Andy Quartarone and his wife, Alycia; his grandchildren, Giada, Theo, Luca and Estelle; his brother, Robert Quartarone and his wife, Sarah; his sisters, Diane Hassett and her husband, Tim, Jane Quartarone and Karen Siber; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife, Bonnie Chauvot.
