Richard Wilkinson

Richard Wilkinson, a loving father and lifelong resident of Hockessin, DE, unexpectedly passed away in his new home in Milford on February 17, 2021.  He had just moved to his new home in January to be closer to his favorite place, the beach.  

Richard was born on February 19, 1963 to Fredrick and Joanne Wilkinson.  He graduated from Alexis I duPont Highschool, class of 1981.  After graduation, he served in the US Air Force and Air National Guard for 6 years.  After completing his service, he worked for Bank of America for nearly 27 years.

His daughters were the center of his world. He loved them even more than he loved fishing and the beach.  Richard spent all of his free time taking his family to the beach and caring for others.  Richard gave back to the community in any way he could.  He spent many summers volunteering for the Appalachian Service Project.  He humbly donated his time and resources to many local charities such as Urban Promise and Sunday Breakfast Mission.  Richard also had a strong passion for music.  He loved sharing his passion for music with others.  Richard enjoyed playing piano for his church, Sunday Breakfast Mission and Christmas Carols in elderly homes during the holiday season. Richard could never refuse a friend in need, just another outstanding quality that he shared with the community. 

He is survived by his 2 daughters, Laura & Anne Marie Wilkinson; his brothers, Chuck Wilkinson, Joe Wilkinson and Bob Wilkinson; and his sister, Mary Ann Bryant.  

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 11:00am. Interment will be held privately. 

Services for Richard will be held in accordance with current COVID-19 directives, which require mandatory facemasks, social distancing, and capacity restrictions at the funeral home.
