Phillip Dale Brooks, Sr. passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, at Christiana Hospital surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on August 31, 1938, in Paducah, Kentucky, Phillip was the son of Carlie Lee Brooks and Dixie L. Taylor (née Land). In 1954, he moved to Delaware with his mother and sister, where he spent the rest of his life.
On September 6, 1957, Phillip married the love of his life, Miriam Frances Singles, at Stanton Methodist Church in Stanton, Delaware. Together, they raised their family in New Castle and shared nearly seven decades of a marriage filled with love and devotion.
Phillip proudly served in the Delaware National Guard, enlisting in 1955 and serving with Battery D, 736th AAA Battalion. He was promoted to Private Class E-2 in 1956 and received an honorable discharge in 1963.
He spent 37 years working for NKS Distributors, beginning as an Installation Mechanic and later excelling as an Advertising Specialist until his retirement in 2000. Phillip was also a dedicated member of the Free Will Baptist Church of New Castle for more than 30 years. Using his carpentry skills, he lovingly crafted the church’s pulpit and communion table, which remain in use to this day.
Phillip was a man of many talents. He enjoyed restoring and maintaining his home, woodworking, gardening, and baking. He also loved hunting, fishing, painting, beekeeping, and fixing cars. As a member of the Delaware T’s Antique Car Club, Phillip restored and showcased antique cars alongside Miriam, a passion they shared together.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Miriam; his daughter, Deborah Malekzadeh of Pike Creek; his son, Dale Brooks of New Castle; his sister, Karla J. Zweifel of Medina, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Phillip joins his father, mother, and cherished daughter, Donna, in everlasting peace after a long and fulfilling life.
