Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Neil was the oldest of 7 children. Neil served his country in the United States Navy, retiring after 20 years as an E8 Senior Chief Petty Officer. Neil was very passionate about his family and friends along with serving the Lord through his church, Mt. Salem United Methodist. He was a lover of Great Danes, having bred them for over 35 years. The positivity and love he showed daily influenced everyone he met. Neil was a Mr. Fix-It with the ability to remedy any problem that was brought his way. No one was ever a stranger to him.
Neil is survived by his wife, Susan Nielsen Lentz; his children, Geri Lynn (Sean) Motherway, Dawn (John) Stevenson, Neil (Alyssa) Lentz, Ted Nielsen, and Ben (Crystal) Nielsen; his grandchildren, Erich, Austen, Sebastian, Sebrina (Sean), Fiona, and Harrison; his great grandchildren Hunter, Dexter, Luke, Lucy, and Iylah; his siblings, John Ray (Donna) Lentz, George (Lori) Lentz, Virginia DeLoose, and Tina (Chuck) Cathey; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Neil was preceded in death by his parents, John Elwood Lentz and Greta Hollett Lentz; his children, Melanie Lentz and Thomas Lentz; and his brothers, Steven (Carol) Lentz and Rodney (Elaine) Lentz.
Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, May 23, 2026, beginning at 11 a.m. at Mt. Salem United Methodist Church, 2629 W 19th St, Wilmington, DE 19806. A memorial service will follow at 12 p.m.
