Michael Smith, age 28, of New Castle, DE, passed away unexpectedly on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025.
Born at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE, Michael was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Braves. He was known for his kind heart, sharp sense of humor, and deep love for his family and friends. Michael especially loved a good party—nothing made him happier than being surrounded by those he loved. How fitting is it that his viewing will take place on his birthday?
Michael is survived by his loving parents, Mike and Jackie Smith; his sister, Mekenzie; his brother, Logan; and his adopted sister, Ikea Johnson. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly. Among them, his cousins Mason and Colton held a special place in his heart—he cherished them deeply and considered them his world.
Michael found joy in spending time with friends, especially while playing video games, which brought him countless hours of laughter and connection.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Bayada nurses and CNAs who cared for Michael with such compassion and dedication. Michael will be remembered for his generous heart, quick wit, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Donald and Madeline Smith, and his maternal grandparents, Leonard and Phyllis Bartkowski.
Family and friends are invited to visit at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, on Wednesday, April 30th, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, and again on Thursday, May 1st, 2025, from 9:30 – 10:30 AM, with funeral services beginning at 10:30 AM.
