May Elizabeth (Noel) Stubblebine

May Elizabeth Stubblebine, 78, of Newark Delaware, passed on Friday morning, May 12, 2023, at her son Daniel and daughter-in-law Amy’s home.  Born on January 18, 1945, she was the daughter of late Daniel and Elizabeth Noel.  May was born and raised in Wilmington Delaware and graduated from Christiana High School in 1964.  Upon graduating, she began working at Chrysler and during that time she met her future husband, Charles Haig Stubblebine Jr. and they were married on November 11, 1972. In May of 1976, she gave birth to her firstborn, Charles Haig Stubblebine III and 17 months later had her second son, Daniel Martin Stubblebine.  It was at this time that May switched jobs from Chrysler to Home Health Corporation of America where she worked for the next 20 years.  May was a devoted wife to her husband, Haig, for 49 years, before his passing in March 2022. She loved her two sons, two daughters-in-law, seven grandchildren, the Phillies, and her beloved friends, who she had by her side until her last day. 

In 2009, May was diagnosed with breast cancer and after receiving radiation and chemo she was in remission until 2016.  At this time the cancer had metastasized into bone cancer and she was close to death while being hospitalized on a ventilator.  However, the strong and resilient “Miracle May” persevered when no doctor thought it possible.  Unfortunately, her battle with cancer ended abruptly in 2023 after treatments were unsuccessful.  Throughout all her years battling cancer May was always surrounded by her grandchildren who she adored deeply and would give anything and everything she had.

She is survived by her sister, Maryanne Holgate; two sons: Charles and Daniel; two daughters-in-law: Pam and Amy; and her seven grandchildren: Natalie, Olivia, Leah, Madison, Nathan, Hailey, and Timothy.

A viewing will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023, from 5:00 – 7:00PM at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, Wilmington, DE 19808.  The following day, Tuesday, May 23, 2023, funeral services will also be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, Pike Creek and will begin promptly at 10:00AM.  A burial will immediately follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. Dupont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720.
