Mary Jane (Argoe) Anthony

Mary Jane (Argoe) Anthony, age 88, of Wilmington, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021.

She was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late Wilbur and Margaret (Goldsborough) Argoe, and lived in Cranston Heights. She was a 1951 graduate of Wilmington High School and attended Goldey-Beacom.

In addition to raising her family, she worked as a certified nursing assistant; working at a variety of hospitals in the area over the years. She also enjoyed dancing, bowling, crafts, and swimming. She was a member of the Absalom Jones Senior Center for years, where she had a craft room and enjoyed spending time with her many friends.

Mary Jane is survived by her daughters, Judith Anthony-Hayslip (James, deceased) and Mary Jane “Toni” Anthony; her sons, Michael J. Anthony (Satina) and Timothy G. Anthony (Stacey); her grandchildren: Tom, Jenna, Georgie IV, Mark, John, Mary Jane, Michael Jr., Alyssa and Tara; and her great-grandchildren, Tommy, Taylor, Madison, Aaron, Jeremiah, Tori, Alex, McKenzie, and Grayson.

In addition to her parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George R. Anthony, Jr.; her son, George R. Anthony III; her grandchildren, Robert and Nicholas; and her great-grandchild, Sissy.

A funeral service will be celebrated at 10:30am on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 9:00am. Interment will be held in Townsend Cemetery.
