Mary Dorothy (Kenney) Wilson

Mary D. (Kenney) Wilson “Honey”, age 94, recently of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at the Heartland Hospice House on Wednesday, December 2, 2015.

Mary was born in Camden, NJ, daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Sutton) Kenney. She was a graduate of Camden Catholic High School, Pierce Business School in Philadelphia and Georgian Court College, in Lakewood, NJ, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. Mary went on to work as a legal secretary in Philadelphia, where she met Joseph Andrew Wilson, whom she later married.

She enjoyed gardening, golfing, bowling and the Jersey Shore. She also liked to travel, taking trips to California to visit her daughter; overseas to Europe for vacation and going to Alaska for her 80th birthday. Mary was a woman of strong faith and a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to raising her family. She will be remembered for her warm smile, hugs and laughter.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Mary Anne Wilson and Eileen Cahn (Marc); her grandchildren, Jaime, Bryan and Michael Cahn; her brothers, Richard (Joan) and Joseph (Jane) Kenney; her sisters-in-law, Margie Kenney and Catherine O’Brien; and many friends and members of her extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph; her daughter, Joan Wilson; and her siblings, Dorothy, Thomas and Catherine Kenney.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm on Monday, December 7, 2015 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 11:00am. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, Mary’s family suggests making contributions to Heartland Hospice, 256 Chapman Road, Suite 102, Newark, DE 19702.
