Mary M. Skinner of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at home surrounded by family.
She was born on May 20, 1931 to Alfred and Rose Mihaly into a family of ten brothers and sisters. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Frederick W. Skinner, her parents and eight brothers and sisters.
Mary graduated from Wilmington High School and the Wilmington General Nursing School in 1948. She worked as a Supervisor in the Operating Room at the Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1984. She and Fred enjoyed boating, crabbing, fishing and traveling during their retirement years. Mary also volunteered and participated in mentoring, Lewes Microbiology Studies, Rehoboth and Millsboro Art Leagues, and the Academy of Lifelong Learning in Lewes. She proudly achieved Lifetime Membership with the American Contract Bridge League.
She was happiest cooking, picking and eating crabs, celebrating holidays, vacationing and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her daughters: Mary Cynthia Sublett, Carol (Milt) Gottschall, and Catherine (Frank) Burke; her grandchildren: Claire, Matt and Anna, Rachael and Steven, and Megan and Lauren, and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Bruce (Ara) Skinner, Kathy (Lloyd) Barnes, Wayne Skinner and their families. She will be greatly missed by her loving sister, Dorothy Herman.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Wednesday, November 17 from 5:00-7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Church, 905 New Road, Wilmington, DE 19805 on Thursday, November 18 at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Friends of Historic Riverview Cemetery, 3300 North Market Street, Wilmington, DE 19802.
