Mary Louise Brunhammer Bradley (“Meme”) died Sunday, September 10, 2023 at age 100. She will be greatly missed.
Born on June 13, 1923, to Eugene and Madeline (Bader) Brunhammer, Mary Louise grew up in The Highlands, was an Ursuline Academy graduate, and attended the University of Delaware. During the War, Mary Louise worked for the DuPont Company processing war bonds.
On October 24, 1947, Mary Louise married Charles (Chick) Bradley and they were blessed with 67 years of marriage. Together, they raised five sons: Charles (Marie), Eugene (Patti, deceased), Edward (Cindy), Bill, and Paul (Karen). They cherished their 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Mary Louise was predeceased by her sisters, Ursula Kirwin and Betty Winkler.
Mary Louise was a meticulous homemaker and an accomplished cook, especially remembered for her elegant Christmas Eve buffet, which was the highlight of the season for over 60 years. Mary Louise enjoyed the finer things in life, including red wine, ice cream, beautiful clothes, and rapid Cadillac acceleration.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Doherty Funeral Home, 1900 Delaware Avenue, Wilmington, DE from 9:30-10:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11AM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 2013 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington, DE. Interment will follow in St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.
