Mary Ahearn Obituary

Mary T. (Fitzpatrick) Ahearn, 84, of Newark, Delaware passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024.

Born and raised in Wilmington, she was the first child of the late James and Mary (Hickey) Fitzpatrick. Mary was a proud graduate of St. Elizabeth's. After graduating college, Mary began her career as a school teacher for the Diocese of Wilmington. Soon thereafter she was employed as an administrative assistant at the DuPont Experimental Station. Her final and favorite position was as office manager of her family’s business, A&F Machine and Development Corporation, where she worked alongside her husband, son, step-daughter and other family and friends for over 30 years.

Mary had many interests throughout her life. She was an Elvis Presley fan and once appeared on American Bandstand with Dick Clark. She was a passionate doll collector, had a keen eye for Thomas Kinkade artwork and enjoyed relaxing at the beach. She was an avid football fan and enjoyed rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles, particularly celebrating their first Super Bowl win in 2018. Above all, Mary loved her family.  Mary had a special love of dogs and was never without one by her side.  She also loved driving her '55 Cameo.

Mary will be dearly missed by her husband, Douglas M. Ahearn; her children, Kathleen Schneider (Karl) and Kevin Kelley (Jody); her step-daughters, Jennifer Jablonski (Michael) and Michelle Borzio (Frank); her grandchildren, Amanda Jones, Alyssa Schneider, Samantha Kleinstuber (Daniel), Julianne Ross (Shane), Emily Kelley, Casey, Maddie and Allie Jablonski, Douglas and Andrew McClelland, Frankie and Marisa Borzio; and her great grandchildren, Randy and Gabriella Jones, Cory Ross, and Sophia Kleinstuber. She is also survived by her brothers, James Fitzpatrick (Dodi) and Peter Fitzpatrick (Marie); and her sister, Martha Fitzpatrick as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Mary will be joined in Heaven by her great grandson, Tristan Jones; her sister, Susan Andersen; and her parents.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin on Thursday, February 15 from 9:30 – 11:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following the visitation. Burial will be held privately.
