Mario C. Renai, age 88, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 6, 2021.
Born in Wilmington, DE, Mario was the son of the late Louise (Denest) and Mario C. Renai, Sr. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School Class of 1952. After graduation, Mario enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served for two years. In 1959, Mario began his twenty year career with the Wilmington Police Department, where he rose through the ranks from Patrolman and Detective before attaining rank of Captain. While on the Wilmington Police Force, Mario completed a three month course in criminal justice from Northwestern University before graduating from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 1974, while on the Dean’s list.
After retiring from the Wilmington Police Department in 1979, Mario began a second twenty year career with the State of Delaware Department of Transportation, where he worked in the Real Estate Department.
In his leisure time, Mario enjoyed traveling with Marge, especially to the islands. In his earlier years, he enjoyed dancing with Marge. He was also an avid golfer and bowler.
Mario is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Margaret A. (Dolan) Renai; his nieces, Maureen Ferm of Lewes, DE, Melissa Epstein, Valerie Poppiti and Suzanne Renai, all of Wilmington, DE; and his nephew, Raymond Peden of New Castle. He was predeceased by his parents, Louise and Mario Renai, Sr.; his brother, Raymond Renai; and his sister, Marion Peden.
Family and friends may visit beginning at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, November 16 at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
