Marie T. Rose, 96, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born to Samuel and Margaret Ableman of Wilmington, Delaware. She was the oldest of six children, a loving wife, mother, sweet “little” Mom-mom, and doting great-grandmother.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Larry Rose; her parents; her brothers, Paul, Joseph, and Henry Ableman; her sister, Sr. Claire Ableman, OSB; her sons-in-law, John Mazzetti and Jim Oliver; and her lifelong best friend, Florence Pugliese.
Marie is survived by her four children, Patricia Oliver, Joseph Giordano (Janel), Marie Mazzetti, and Claire Rice (Jimmy); her former son-in-law, Phil McLaughlin; her step-children, Karen Cianco (John) and Lee Rose; her cherished nephew, Samuel Ableman (Sandy); her sister, Peggy Reeve; her sister-in-law, Arlene Ableman; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many step-grands, step-great grands, nieces and nephews.
Marie was proud of her work at the Delaware Airbase during WWII where she was responsible for the tool inventory and distribution. She was a homemaker while raising her children. She then worked in retail and volunteered as an election poll worker for many years. A dedicated Delaware Democrat, Marie held on with determination, aspiring to make it to November to cast her vote for Joe!
Marie enjoyed traveling with Larry, Florence, and the Knights of Columbus. She also liked to test her luck by playing slot machines and she had a special method for picking winning scratch-off tickets. Larry and Marie loved to solve complex jigsaw puzzles together and all the grandchildren loved to help. In recent years, she found joy in playing games on her iPhone and keeping her family entertained with her lively posts and messages on Facebook and Instagram. She loved playing Wii bowling and card games with her friends at Churchman Village, especially with her friend Veronica.
She took great pride in being a fantastic cook and “food critic.” Her secret ingredient in many of her dishes? Sugar, and lots of it! Family will always be reminded of her when we prepare her recipes for coleslaw, potato salad, candied sweet potatoes, chicken n’ dumplings, sauce with gnocchi, Italian cookies, fudge, and crab bisque soup.
She navigated life's journey with resilience and love, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew her.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of Beebe Hospital for their compassionate care during her hospital stay.
Family and friends are invited to visit Doherty Funeral Home located at 3200 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808 on February 15th, 2024. Visitation will begin at 1pm with services starting at 1:45pm, entombment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
