Marian Loretta Castiglione, 72, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away tragically and unexpectedly on February 4, 2026, in an automobile accident while vacationing in Florida. She was enjoying life to its fullest with her beloved companion, Doug at the time of her passing—a reflection of her adventurous spirit and love of creating meaningful memories.
Raised in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, before moving to Delaware, Marian was a graduate of Brandywine High School, Class of 1973. Upon marrying her high school sweetheart, Stephen Sr., they created a family and a life that lasted many decades. She went on to build a career at Bank of New York (Delaware) before later joining her husband (Stephen Sr.) in the family's home improvement and restoration business.
Above all else, Marian’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother whose pride in her children and grandchildren knew no bounds. She is survived by her loving son, Stephen Castiglione Jr. (Josette), and her cherished grandchildren, Brittany, Brett, and Victoria (“Tori”), who brought her immense pride and happiness.
Marian was one of ten children in the Melasecca family. She is also survived by her siblings, Phyllis Collins (Jeff), Deborah Upson (Jim), James (Roseanne), Greg (Valerie), John (Nancy), Anthony (Lorie), Maureen Pretko, sister-in-laws Beth Sontowski and Cheryl Cycyk (Ed), along with many beloved nieces and nephews whom she loved deeply.
She was predeceased by her beloved son, Timothy Castiglione; her parents, Jane and John C. Melasecca Sr.; in-laws Jack and Elizabeth Castiglione, her sister, Jane Melasecca Green; her brother, Edward Melasecca Sr., her brother-in-law, Larry Sontowski, Sr; and her devoted partner, Douglas Poole, who passed away alongside her.
Marian possessed a vibrant, compassionate spirit and a genuine love of people. She cultivated lifelong friendships and had a special gift for bringing others together. She loved live music and dancing. In retirement, she took pride in planning social events within her friend group, creating joyful gatherings filled with laughter, warmth, and connection. She had an adventurous heart and a love of travel, always seeking new experiences and cherishing time spent with family and friends. Whether exploring new places or hosting loved ones at home, Marian understood that life’s greatest treasures were the moments shared together.
Marian will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and in the family she adored.
A celebration of Marian’s life will be held on Monday, May 11th, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages honoring Marian’s memory through acts of kindness or a donation to a meaningful charity.
