Margaret “Peggy” Street (née Long) passed away on July 15, 2021, surrounded by her loving children.
Born on March 1, 1945, Peggy was the daughter of Alonzo and Augustine Long. A lifetime resident of Wilmington, she graduated from James Groves High School. Peggy retired from Value City in Elsmere in 2005. She later worked at Walmart in Prices Corner. Peggy was known by her retail family as Miss Street and was beloved by employees and customers alike. Many would wait in a longer line for a chance to chat with her at the register.
Peggy loved country music and loved to dance. She also enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and Delaware Park. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a wonderful mother and mom mom to her own family and many others.
She is survived by her children, Escuss “Tony” Street (Gena), Tina Merritt (Gary) and Tammy Jackson as well as her ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her brother, Thomas Long (Vickie) and sister in law Audrey Long. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings, Alonzo Long, Delores Hicks, Ernest Long, Agnes Berry and Charles Long.
Family and friends may visit from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. A Celebration of Peggy’s Life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 21 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
