Margaret A. (McGonigle) Mellen of Wilmington, Delaware passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025, one day shy of her 84th birthday. Born into a large Irish family, she was one of 13 children, and the last surviving, of the late Edward and Margaret (Keegan) McGonigle.
Peg was an avid bowler and enjoyed participating in several leagues throughout the area. She was also a devoted Elvis Presley enthusiast. Peg dutifully served as the caregiver for her mother as well as several of her siblings.
Her husband, Edward “Tiny” Mellen, passed away on January 6, 2021. In addition, Peg was predeceased by her seven brothers, Edward “Flash”, Gerald, George, Francis, Joseph, William and James McGonigle; and her five sisters, Helen Johnson, Teresa McClain, Lucille McGonigle, Mary Cassidy and Marcella McGonigle.
Peg is survived by many nieces, nephews and their families.
The family would like to thank the staff at Kentmere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care given to Peg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Church, Gilpin Avenue and N. Union Street, Wilmington on Thursday, January 8 at 10:30AM, immediately followed by interment at Cathedral Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Peg may be made to St. Ann’s Church, 2013 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806.
