Madge (Sarver) Wells

Madge (Sarver) Wells, age 94, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully after a hard fought and courageous battle with dementia on Thursday, March 20, 2025 after a caring 8 month stay at Pike Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born on September 6, 1930, in Rich Creek, Giles, Virginia; Madge was a devoted sister, aunt, friend and neighbor.

Madge is survived by her brother, George William Sarver and his wife May Lou; Brother In Law, Roger Stone Sr.; and lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.

She was a beloved daughter of Ella Hines Canterbury Sarver and John Kester Sarver. She graduated from Spanishburg High School in Spanishburg, West Virginia, in 1948.

Madge proudly worked from the time she left home in West Virginia at age 16. Her life’s adventures took her from West Virginia to Baltimore and eventually landing in Delaware where she worked as a Clerk for the Court of Chancery at New Castle County Courthouse until her retirement in 1988.  

A devoted member of the community, Madge was active with her church, Resurrection Parish. She volunteered reading to the blind, and at the Delaware Humane Association and SPCA/Faithful Friends in Wilmington, as Madge loved all animals, especially cats; she had many over her lifetime.  

Madge loved learning and attended The Academy of Lifelong Learning for many years after her retirement. She went on many trips and outings with her cherished friends she met there.

She is predeceased by her parents; her two sisters, Lee and Jean; and three brothers, Ray, Roy and Jim.

The family would like to extend warm thanks and gratitude to the staff of Pike Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation and Compassionate Care Hospice of Newark.

Family and friends are invited to visit at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Drive, Wilmington, DE, on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 10:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM, followed by interment at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
