It is with tremendous sorrow that we announce the passing of our Mom, Sister, Gigi, and incredible partner/friend, Lynn Marie McElroy. She left us suddenly on Tuesday, March 25th at the age of 69. She was born on March 18, 1956 in Dover, Delaware to the late Edward and Eileen Turnberger.
Lynn attended, and graduated from Delcastle High School in 1975. She then went on to earn her nursing degree at the nursing school of Wilmington; and her hard working, friendly, and loyal character carried her through a 45-year career with Saint Francis, Christiana Care, and other various positions. She enthusiastically took her well-deserved retirement in 2018 so she could travel even more, and spend time with her new and favorite additions to her family, her grandchildren, Reese(7 years old) and Taylor McElroy(6 years old) of Wilmington, NC. If Lynn wasn’t already at her condo in Rehoboth, booked on a trip to a tropical destination or ski resort with Wilmington Ski Club, she was squeezing in trips to visit her son, Jeremy McElroy, daughter-in-law, Katie McElroy and her precious grandkids in Wilmington, NC.
Lynn lived her life with a constant thirst for more. She was fortunate to have family near and far to satisfy her on-the-go personality. She is survived by her sister, and brother-in-law, Beth & Gary Gunther of Bear, DE.; her brother, and sister-in-law, Michael Turnberger and Deborah Honkus of Bolivar, PA.; her brother, Steve Turnberger of Redondo Beach, CA.; her sister, and brother-in-law, Anne & Terry Lucius of Evergreen, CO.; and finally her wonderful longtime boyfriend, Mark Hudson of Middletown, DE. Lynn also leaves behind her devoted canine companions Pearl, and Sally.
Lynn’s family would like to thank the medical teams of University of Pennsylvania, and Helen Graham Cancer Center for their care and compassion. We would also like to thank Lynn’s many friends for the continuous support they provided in her time of need.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Angels Parish, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE, on Wednesday, April 23rd at 11am. A celebration of life will be held immediately afterwards.
Memorial donations in memory of Lynn may be made to The Benedictine Sisters at St. Gertrude Monastery, 25 Gender Road Newark, DE, 19713.
