Lucy Yi-Chi Chang Obituary

Lucy Yi-Chi Chang, age 78, beloved wife, mother, aunt and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, January 27, 2023 surrounded by family. She died after a courageous five-year battle with lung, breast and colon cancer.

“Lucky” was born in Hsinchu, Taiwan on July 2, 1944 and immigrated to the United States and married Eugene Eng-June Chang on June 26, 1967.  Lucy was a devout Christian and a member of the Wilmington Community Evangelical Church.  She eagerly shared her faith and joy of the Good News of Christ with others and supported our missionaries.

Lucy was a generous woman with a large heart for her husband, children and especially her grandchildren.  She was the backbone of the family and took great care of her husband Eugene, who eventually committed his life to Jesus Christ -- truly a blessing for us to witness.

Lucy is predeceased by her beloved husband, Eugene, in 2015; father and mother, Tadanao Tagawa (Wen Kern Chen 田川忠尚(陳文根)), Yoshiko Tagawa (Su Tse Wei 田川淑子(魏淑芷)); and her eldest brother, Louis Po-Fang Chen 陳伯芳.

Lucy is survived by her children, Christine Chang, MD and husband, Jerry Chang, MD of Pelham, NY; Kenneth Chang, MD and wife, Barbara Knight, MD of Media, PA; and Helen Chang-DeGuzman, MD and husband, Eduardo DeGuzman of Hockessin, DE.  She will be sadly missed by her 8 grandchildren, Grace, Michael, Sarah, Benjamin, Reese, Victor, Noah, and Calista.  She also has 2 surviving younger brothers, Jim Jang-June Chen 陳章俊 and Yoshinobu Tagawa (Wei-Cheng Chen 田川義成(陳偉成)), who live in Libertyville, Illinois and Tokyo, Japan and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the Wilmington Community Evangelical Church, 1512 Brackenville Road, Hockessin, DE 19707 on Monday, February 6, 2023 with a public viewing at 9:30AM and a funeral service at 10:30AM.  A Christian burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.  Following burial, we welcome all friends and family to celebrate Lucy’s life at Sakura, 4713 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808 at 12:45PM.
