Lucille (Everett) Herber

Lucille Everett Herber, age 94, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

She was born in North Whitehall, PA, daughter of the late John and Caroline (Roth) Everett.  Lucille’s sharp wit and creative talents helped her forge a path as an accomplished high school student.  She ultimately graduated Summa Cum Laude from Lincoln University in 1970 and went on to enjoy a 20-year career as an English teacher at Oxford High School.

In addition to her career as an educator, she dedicated her life to her family; instilling a thirst for education and creative expression in her children and grandchildren. She volunteered at the Delaware Museum of Natural History for 15 years working on various educational exhibits. Her appreciation for the creative arts led her to serve as an usher at the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia well into her 80’s.  Lucille was a lifelong avid reader and enjoyed being a part of the Landenberg Book Club for many years.  She loved traveling, music, gardening, and quilting, creating heirloom quilts for each of her grandchildren, keepsakes that they cherish to this day. She was a devoted member of the St Mark’s United Methodist Church and served in many capacities.  She spent much of her time and talents in the service of others, sewing for Project Linus, delivering Meals on Wheels, and assisting other various local organizations.   She had a quiet strength and confidence that her family will remember and cherish forever.

Lucille is survived by her brother, Thomas Everett (Anita), and will be dearly missed by her children, Linda Lynch (Don, deceased), Scott Herber (Tracey), and Debra McCauley (Gregg); her grandchildren, Donald Lynch, Jr. (Michelle), Sean Lynch (Zoe), Emily McLean (Ryan), Becky Brooks (Joe), Rachel Ehrman (Jim), and Kelly Raveling (Brian); her great-grandchildren, Owen and Nora Lynch, Callum Lynch, Avery and Patrick McLean, Scout and Finn Brooks, Renner and Warren Ehrman, Claire and Colin Raveling.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Herber; and her sister, Sue Klase (Harvey, deceased).

Lucille’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to her team of caregivers; especially Shannon Scully and Linda Fenstermacher, for their unwavering dedication over the past many years which allowed her to remain in the comfort of her own home throughout her final years.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 3:30pm on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Skyline United Methodist Church, 3100 Skyline Drive, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 2:00pm. Interment will be private.
