Louise Rose (Rossi) Keefer, age 82, formerly of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Trenton, NJ, Louise was the daughter of the late Daniel and Lucy (Cermele) Rossi. As a proud graduate of Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey), Louise enjoyed a fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher. For 23 years, she was dedicated to shaping young minds, spending 19 of those years teaching 2nd grade at St. John the Beloved Catholic School in Wilmington, DE.
Louise was a first-generation American and a proud part of a large and close-knit Italian family. She was raised in Lawrenceville, NJ, above her parents' iconic restaurant: Rossi’s Tomato Pies and Restaurant. The restaurant was not just a business, but the heart of a community, where neighbors—many of them Italian immigrants—gathered to share meals, laughter, and stories. From a young age, Louise worked alongside her parents and sister, shaping her deep appreciation for family and her unwavering connection to her roots. It was there that she met a special customer, Walter E Keefer Jr (“Bud”), who became the love of her life, and her husband for 56 years.
Known for her love of life’s simple pleasures, Louise had a fondness for shopping—especially for her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She loved attending school and sporting events, always cheering on her family. Her love for pizza and anything chocolate was well known. She also had a passion for Italy, traveling there many times throughout her life and making cherished memories. Louise loved vacations at the Jersey Shore where she enjoyed the food, the boardwalk, and the time spent with family and friends there. She also adored listening to Italian music, its melodies bringing her a sense of comfort and connection. Feeding others brought her immense satisfaction; her kitchen was always open with an available seat at the table.
Above all, Louise cherished her family. Her greatest joy was having her family all together, creating memories and traditions. She will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother (“Nonna”) & great-grandmother (“Mamarella”). She was the epitome of love—her family will forever carry the warmth of her embrace and the wisdom of her gentle spirit. You left her house with a hug and mom's blessing by tracing a cross on your forehead, a reminder of her deep faith and the love she shared with all who entered her home.
Louise is survived by her children, Lucille Sneeringer (Phil), Daniel Keefer (Tara), and Michael Keefer (Natalie); her grandchildren, Carter known to her as Hannah (Andrew), Claire, Maximus, Roman, Vincent, Madiella, Gianna, and Lukas; and her great-granddaughter, Emerie.
In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; and her sister, Verna Marie Rossi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Holy Angels Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE 19711, where family and friends may visit starting at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
