Louis Vella, 58, of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
Born on January 24, 1967, in Raffadali, Sicily, Louie was the beloved son of the late Vincenzo and Vincenza (Perrone) Vella. He immigrated to the United States in 1976 and took great pride in becoming an American citizen. He was looking forward to celebrating 50 years in his adopted country—a milestone that reflected both his gratitude and deep love for his new home.
Louie worked as an IT Manager with Holman Enterprises for over 15 years, during which he forged countless friendships with his coworkers. He recently fulfilled a personal goal by earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona.
A man of faith and service, Louie was a devoted parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Italian lector. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Pius X Council #4425.
Louie devoted much of his life to his two sons, taking an active role in every aspect of their upbringing. He served as President of St. Anthony’s Home and School Board, coached soccer, and was a dedicated supporter of the Boy Scouts, most notably as a long-serving Scoutmaster for Troop #88. Even when he wasn’t directly involved, he was always present - cheering at track meets, watching rugby games from the sidelines, and chasing the Penn State Blue Band across State College, anticipating their next performance.
He left behind a lasting legacy of self-taught DIY projects, each one a reflection of his strong work ethic and a testament to his dedication to those who followed in his footsteps. His proudest achievement was the brick pizza oven and fireplace he built with his sons in 2020 - a centerpiece for countless cherished gatherings with friends and family during his beloved pizza nights.
Louie will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 30 years, Kimberly M. (Dilks) Vella; his sons, Vincent Vella and his wife Mia (Pastore), and Dante Vella and his girlfriend Megan Gerrity. He is also survived by his sister, Caterina Vella, as well as a long list of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and DuPont Streets, Wilmington, on Wednesday, June 25, from 10:00 to 11:45AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00PM. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Louie’s memory be made to the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, 101 Rockland Circle, Wilmington, DE 19803 or online at www.bepositive.org .
