Lois Potts Obituary

Lois Lee (McGrew) Potts, 91, of Hockessin, DE passed away peacefully, with her immediate family by her side, on October 1, 2022.

She was born on September 20, 1931, in Hopkinsville, KY, and was the daughter of the late Milton Wood McGrew and Hattie Hawkins McGrew.

After high school, she graduated from Bethel College in Hopkinsville, and soon after, married Charles D. Potts in 1954.  Lois and Charlie then moved to Louisville, KY, where they started a life-long marriage together and began to start a family.  In 1972, Charlie and Lois moved the family to Delaware, which they adopted as their home away from their Kentucky home.  Lois lived in Delaware for the rest of her life, except for some retirement winters in Florida.

Although she worked professionally as a bookkeeper and administrative assistant at times, her labor of love was being a homemaker.  In that role she dedicated her life to raising her immediate family, as well as providing ever loving support to her extended family (sibling, nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, etc.) and got tremendous joy seeing them succeed and enjoyed their evolving lives.

Lois was a devoted wife, loving mother as well as a kind and supportive friend to everyone that knew her.  Close friends were always included in her extended family.   At Lois' house, the door was always open and your plate was always full.  She was always involved with her local church, which included Red Clay Creek Presbyterian in Delaware.  Due to close family members having Multiple Sclerosis, she was a long-time supporter of the Delaware Chapter of the National MS Society.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles Potts and her older brother, William McGrew.  She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Don Sniadowski, her son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Judy Potts, and her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and David Stanford.  In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren and additional in-laws that she welcomed into her family:  Patrick and Andrea Sniadowski, Julie Sniadowski, Kate Sniadowski, Andrew and Amanda Stanford, Rachel and Connor Johnson, and Lauren Stanford.

A Memorial service will be held at Cokesbury Village, 726 Loveville Rd. Hockessin, DE beginning at 2:00 PM, October 8, 2022. Visitation with family members will immediately follow the Service.  The burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Greater Delaware Valley Chapter of the National MS Society: 30 South 17th Street, Suite 800, Philadelphia, PA 19103, or https://www.nationalmssociety.org/Chapters/PAE
