Leon Dobrowolski, Sr. Obituary

Leon James Dobrowolski, age 83, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully surrounded  by his loving family on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Pop/Poppy was adored and loved dearly.  Lee was born in Wilmington, son of Leo and Elizabeth (Sweeney) Dobrowolski, was a graduate of Salesianum High School and enjoyed a 60-year career as an electrician and member of the IBEW Local 313.

Lee never met a stranger. His outgoing, loving personality and kind nature endeared him to everyone who knew him. He was a kind soul. A humble man. He was a talented woodworker and skilled handyman. Always helping family and friends with their next project.  He always left a note on whatever he worked on.  Lee was generous with his time and 'always showed up'. Instilling these qualities in his children and grandchildren. Lee was always the life of the party, but most important, he was a beloved husband, loving Pop to his children and a dear Poppy to his grandchildren. There are no words to describe his love for his wife, Janet (Joe). The twinkle in his eyes when he looked at her.  The smile on his face when he spoke of her. The tears of affection. The rolling of the eyes, the one liners. The notes and letters he wrote. We should all be so lucky! The love for his family was astounding. He ALWAYS left the granddaughters with a "Who Loves You Baby' and the grandsons with a "Be good'. Of course, he ALWAYS left his kids with a few choice words. Those words made them who they are today. He loved them unconditionally and they knew it.  He treated his brothers and sisters-in laws as siblings, His nieces and nephews as his own.  He was adored.

Lee is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janet (Orga) Dobrowolski; his children, Lyn Wolfe (Tim Mizell), Tim Dobrowolski (Lenore Koch) and Jon Dobrowolski (Traci); his grandchildren, Ryan (Jess), Paul Jr. and Lindsay Wolfe, Jake Esteves, Kailee, Timmy, Matt, Rylee, Brayden and Jackson Dobrowolski: and his great grandchildren, Charlee and Colby.

In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his son, Leon, Jr.; his granddaughter, Carlee Dobrowolski; and his siblings, Eugene Dobrowolski and Betty Dickerson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30pm on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 901 N. DuPont Street, Wilmington, DE 19805, where family and friends may visit beginning at 11:00am. Interment will be private.
