Laurence “Larry” M. Dorsney, age 84, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Christiana Care Hospital.
He was born in Wilmington on August 13, 1940, son of the late Mary Facciolo; and brother to the late Grace Bromley, and Kathy Dorsney. Larry was proud of his Italian heritage, still having relatives in Italy to this day.
He attended Brown Vocational High School; and met and fell in love with his wife, Carol, at a Sallies football game in 1960. He was a carpenter with the Carpenter’s Local Union #626 before retiring in 2006; and was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Carol; his two children, Kenneth Dorsney (Connie), and Suzanne Shields, both of Wilmington; and his nine grandchildren, Tyler, Augusta, Thomas, Matthew, John, Stephanie, Jessica, Samantha, and Maddison.
Larry was known for his kindness and willingness to help everyone, whether moving furniture, laying hardwood floors, building fences, or remodeling kitchens or basements. He enjoyed going to Delaware Park to watch the races, and had many friends who joined him there, especially his childhood best friend, Buddy Dorazio. He frequently discussed stocks with his grandson, Thomas; and especially cherished trips to Vegas with his son, Ken. He never missed a St. Elizabeth’s football game that his grandsons participated in.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 2:30pm on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 1:30pm. Interment will be held privately.
