Kathleen “Kay” Burton Wells, 87, of Pike Creek passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025. Kay was a lifelong resident of Delaware. Kay was born to Ella and John Fitzharris and grew up along the Brandywine Creek. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Kay was happily married for over 40 years to Donald “Don” Burton until his passing in 1999. They raised four sons together. Kay and Don were one of the earliest members of Skyline Pool. Kay enjoyed watching her sons grow up there. She also loved going to the pool in her later years, even if it was just to hang out with her friends under her favorite tree. Kay found love again with John “Jack” Wells and they were happily married for over 20 years until her passing. He was her devoted caregiver.
Kay enjoyed spending time with her family, chatting with her many lifelong friends and snapping photos. She was a member of the Red Hat Society for about five years, many years ago. She still maintained friendships with many of the ladies she met there.
In addition to her parents and Don, Kay was preceded in death by her son, Robert Burton in 2008; her son, David Burton in 2015; and her brother, John “Jack” Fitzharris in 2023.
Kay is survived by her husband, Jack; her sons, Mark Burton (Christine) and Jason Burton; her step-daughters, Andrea Lynn Moore (Jim) and Lori Ann Palmer (Matt); her step-son, John Wells (Mary Anne); her sister-in-law, Toni Fitzharris; grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-great grandchildren; as well as many extended family members and friends.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Drive, Skyline Ridge on Wednesday, May 14 from 10:00 – 10:45AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM. Kay will be buried with her late husband, Don Burton, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Delaware.
