Katherine D. (Doherty) McCarthy

Katherine D. McCarthy, age 89 of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 29, 2021. 

Kitty was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late Gerald and Myrtle (Holmes) Doherty. She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy and in addition to raising her family, she worked as a claims examiner and supervisor for Continental American Life Insurance. 

She loved spending time with her family in Cape May, NJ and Pot Nets in the summer; enjoyed her neighborhood card club for over 60 years and was an avid fan of the Phillies and Eagles. 

Kitty is survived by her children, Sherry Netta (Larry), Lisa Tusi (Vincent), Larry (Donna), Amy Gooding (Chuck), and Dennis (Maureen); her grandchildren, Rob, Heather, Jessica, Jason, Tyler, Trevor, Kate, Mary Beth, Christina, Emily and Jack; 4 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Bill Doherty (Anne) and Nancy Lynch; sister-in-law, Joan Doherty; and numerous nieces, nephews, and members of her extended family. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Timothy McCarthy, Sr.; her son, Tim, Jr.; daughter, Mary Catherine; and her siblings, Gerald Doherty III (Betty), Philip Doherty (Helen), Myrtle “Sis” Brunhammer (Eugene), Helen Doherty,  John Holmes Doherty; and brother-in-law, Francis Lynch.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, April 5, 2021 from 5:00 - 7:00pm, at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the following day at 10:00am at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
